About Dr Lucy Mersh
Hello. I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist, Accredited Cognitive Behavioral therapist and EMDR therapist with over 20 years working in the NHS.
If you are struggling with painful emotions, relationships, memories or feeling ‘burnt out’, I am able to offer a warm and safe space for you to discuss your difficulties. I love my job and believe that we can all benefit from time to reflect, understand ourselves better, and find new ways to move forward. I believe good therapy is about helping people use what they have learnt in sessions to gain a greater sense of wellness, confidence and resilience in their everyday lives.
I currently work part time in the NHS delivering therapy for adults and adolescents with mental health difficulties, and providing supervision, consultation, and training to other psychologists and clinicians. I am experienced in working with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties including anxiety, depression, trauma, low-self-esteem, relationship difficulties and psychosis.
My approach to therapy is compassionate, open and collaborative. We will work together to understand your difficulties. I have received further training in several psychological models including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

Specialized Therapy Services
My approach to therapy is personalised and holistic. I value open communication, empathy and trust to create a safe space for clients to explore their thoughts and emotions. With a focus on evidence-based treatment, I integrates various therapeutic modalities to address mental health challenges and promote overall well-being. The therapeutic models I use include:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle.

CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts.

You're shown how to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel.

Unlike some other talking treatments, CBT deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on issues from your past.

It looks for practical ways to improve your state of mind on a daily basis.
Eye Movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and heal from trauma and distressing memories.

By using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR facilitates the reprocessing of traumatic experiences, reducing their emotional charge and helping clients develop healthier coping mechanisms.
This evidence-based therapy has been shown to be effective for conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and depression, empowering clients to reclaim their lives and achieve emotional resilience
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a specialised therapeutic approach designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve interpersonal relationships, and develop effective coping strategies.
Combining cognitive-behavioral techniques with mindfulness practices, DBT focuses on balancing acceptance and change.
It is particularly effective for conditions like borderline personality disorder, emotional dysregulation, and self-harm behaviors, guiding clients toward a more balanced and fulfilling life
